Ficus usually has large, bulky roots. The extra shell and perlite gives the roots the space they need. The added activated carbon detoxifies the roots of rot and fungal problems. Combine this with extra added horticultural sand for a denser and more permeable mix and you have the perfect ficus mix. Using the mix is easy! Start by removing as much old soil as possible. Gently squeeze the pot while holding it on its side to loosen the plant. Run the roots under lukewarm tap water to remove every last bit. Also remove any dead leaves still attached to the plant with scissors. Now your plant is ready for its fresh ficus soil. Add a small layer of ficus mix to the bottom of the pot. Place the plant in the pot and slowly add ficus soil to the sides to fill the pot. Make sure the point where the roots touch the plant is just below the ficus soil. Lightly pat the ficus mix into the pot. Be sure to water the ficus mix thoroughly after repotting as this will help the mix and roots to establish. Using the mix is easy!
